Government Accountability

Together, let’s make good governance happen.

The Campaign for the Bahamas is advocating for the following changes in the law. Join us in supporting these laws and let your voices be heard.

FOIA is Fo’ Ya. You got the right to know!

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) – This law would give the people the right to access information and documentation from the government. FOIA is often described as the law that keeps citizens in the know about their government.

You should be able to say something if you see something!

Whistle Blowers Act: Critical legislation to attaining accountability in countries where nepotism, cronyism, and oppression (corruption) have been the status quo for decades. Individuals that value the even enforcement of the rule of law and open and accountable governance must be protected from any type of ridicule, intimidation or persecution from those that seek to maintain and prosper from corruption.

We need someone to keep an eye on the politicians!

Ombudsman: Allowing an official appointed to investigate individuals' complaints against the government especially that of public authorities. This position protects the people against violation of rights, abuse of powers, unfair decisions, and maladministration.

We need long lasting change!

Constitutional Reform: Political parties must look to change their own constitutions and move to a more democratic open and accountable process. There is too much power in the hands of too few members of the upper echelon of the parties and this provides entirely too much room for oppression, nepotism, and corruption within the party.
